The Boys are Back in Town

CD: Some of that good, dirty souf rap that Chance brought along - you just don’t get much of that over here

Weather: When the boys were here: jackets. When it would rain, which was frequent, we simply took cover in the closest pub. We spent quite a bit of time in the pubs.

Survived. My liver might not have, but the rest of my body seems to be functioning normally (for what it’s worth) after a week long visit from Cheresa, Ian, Dave, Nate and Clint. As Jan put it while walking home early from a local pub: “I haven’t laughed that hard in years”. I couldn’t have agreed more with him.

We did the local sights of Berlin and were sure to bring a football and jackassery with us. I suppose they should both be a given. As it turned out, we had that football in our hands during every moment of the trip. As Dave put it one morning after gripping the ball: “Ahhh fellas… It’s like I’m able to breathe again”. This included a shirts/skins match on the Gendarmenmarkt and a heated scrimmage in front of one of the Royal Palaces in Potsdam. It also proved a valuable tool in the “maedels/’muschi’” department at Bergfest - “goin’ fishing” as Ian put it.

I can’t put enough emphasis on how nice it felt for me to act “American” once again though. The little things, like wearing my white Texas hat backwards, walking with that little strut in the step, hollaring, brawling and speaking a native tongue; you’d never imagine the comfort it can bring.

Chance’s WIFE was also a nice addition, though I still have trouble comprehending the entire “matrimony” thing. That’s not a knock on Teresa; she’s a fantastic girl. But I missed the kids dating process and wedding. They show up on my doorstep, MARRIED, and I think it’s justifiable for me to be a bit puzzled at times. She gave a great speech to us boys though: Any girl we were going to marry had to be cleared by Teresa. Because 20 years from now, we were still going to get together, and the jackassery would continue, and when she would need a break from the stinky men, she wants somebody cool she can hang out with. I don’t knock her for these attributions and look to fulfill her requests. Keep me in line T!

When all parties finally cleared out, I gotta say, I was left a bit homesick. How could I not be? These kids are fantastic kids… I just can’t imagine how anyone could not like any of them. The question was posed: When are we all going to be in the same city again? Give me a little bit of time… I’ll see y’all back in Austin. I’ll be needing your votes for when I run for mayor. And drinks will be free out in the castle/brewery I’ll have out in the Hill Country.
