Texas Fight!

The Granddaddy of them All was the greatest football game I’ve ever seen. Ever.

I was confident we would win and even hold them scoreless for the remainder of the game at the end of the first half.

By the third quarter I was cursing “That Idiot” Mack Brown and the next 10 years I was going to spend swearing him away from my bed-time thoughts.

The beginning of the fourth quarter brought forth the proclamation that “Everybody in the country knows we are going to score on this drive”. I was right and was proved right (I declare that before every drive. You have to be right every now and again).

With two seconds left I could barely look at the tv. I took a sip of beer and then it happened. Clutching Chance’s leg, the University of Texas football team actually did something I rarely see them do. They found a way to win (as opposed to their usual method of dealing with games - finding a way to lose). I yelled in ephoric disbelief. Chance had me lifted up over his head, and I was enjoying the fruits of a multi-year investment into being a fan of the University of Texas. Itwas brilliant.

I’m still not on the Mack Brown bandwagon. I’m still waiting for him to blow it. Next year I am sure we will beat the hell outta the “embarrassment to the Big XII” OU, but we’ll stumble somewhere along the way. I’m still incredibly unimpressed with atm but road trips to OSU (both of them) appear quite daunting. But now it’s basketball season (when Texas grows up, which should be somewhere around the end of February, they are going to be a beast of a March-team). And World Cup tickets go on sale next month!
