I fought the law and I won

I got a call from Dad a few weeks back. The IRS sent me a letter to their home address; did he want me to open it. "Yeah, sure," I said. It was a proposed amendment to my 2013 return. $915. Fer fecks sake. The proposed change was related to Airbnb income Holly and I shared back in March 2013. There's a clause stating that home rentals are tax free so long as they are rented for fewer than 15 days in a calendar year. We had 11 days worth or "renters."I wrote the IRS a strongly-worded letter reminding them of Publication 527 Chapter 5 Page 19. They replied in kind with a re-amended letter, this one showing $0 due. Maybe I should be a lawyer(?).And you're working for no one but me Taxman! In all, I spoke with about three or four IRS phone operators to get the matter resolved. Remarkably, I was reasonably calm. In addition to attempting to sympathize with these people who have the worst jobs in America, I kept thinking about this John Oliver IRS clip. Tax records are still maintained via 1960s technology and funding continues to be cut. But don't take it from me, watch the clip! If anything to see the sweet Michael Bolton song. Yes, THAT Michael Bolton.
