Dresden Gets Her Frauenkirche Back!

"He who has forgotten how to cry, learns it again upon the destruction of Dresden". And what to Dresden’s revival though… There is much more to learn from that! After 60 years, the concrete bell once again triumphs over the majestic skyline of the Florence of the Elbe. It’s hard to imagine the city without it.

I was absolutely taken aback by its graceful beauty one frigid night back in February. The city was marking its 60th year without the church and the castle and all those people, and two floodlights silhouetted the soon to be finished church. The virgin sandstone gave off an iridescent blue tone as the lights majestically praised her beauty. The pride in the Dresdeners that evening seemed to outshine the lights however.May light forever shine on the golden cross that sits atop the church - a gift from the people of Britain; a project spearheaded by an RAF bomber pilot  who participated in the bombing of Dresden and his son, the goldsmith.
